My Psytrance Sci-Fi Mix: Cosmic tracks spanning from 1998 to 2025
Jump on this spaceship with me! My newest mix is fully dedicated to psytrance with sci-fi vibes. ALL tracks have a sci-fi theme, in the title, in the soundscapes, in the samples, in the artist name, or all of them combined. Listen at https://soundcloud.com/chriszka/psytrance-sci-fi-mix-cosmic

I love sci-fi and speculative fiction – because it’s mind-expanding! If you think we live in the weirdest times at the moment, know that we sci-fi readers have seen a lot of this (& even weirder stuff) coming since the 80s.
Obviously, I love sci-fi samples, too. And there are plenty of sci-fi samples & sci-fi references in the psytrance genre. Voice samples about time travel, weird machines & extra-terrestrial contact. Track titles like ‘Jumping through Black Holes’, ‘Orders from a Machine’, ‘Unknown Reality’, ‘Future Vision’ and ‘Bogus Journey’. Marvelous artist names like ELECTRIC SHEEP and Martian Arts and Virtual Light and Endeavor. And I could go on and on and on. And obviously, the soundscapes in psychedelic trance very often sound other-worldly & cosmic & extra-terrestrial & time-travel-like, too.
So: Join me for an hour of cosmic adventures & full-on dancefloor energy.
We start with the oldest tracks (by ELECTRIC SHEEP and Prana and Noma) and then time-jump into the future with rising energy and massive ecstatic dancefloor rollers by Endeavor, Avalon, Martian Arts, Braincell, Aktyum and West Galaxy, etc. etc. – and then land in a soft, breakbeat’y alien/earthy soundscape with Metal Spark and Studio Natura.
The picture is Christopher and me, looking into the future (and the otherworldly lasers) at Strøm’s event at B&W with the excellent light magicians from Båll & Brand, shot by Strøm’s house photographer, long-time collaborator and fellow laser enthusiast Flemming Bo Jensen.
Also: I will be playing somewhere very underground’sy this weekend. I GUARANTEE sci-fi vibes (and high bpm’s) from the decks. Join me! Will it be psytrance or drum’n’bass? Both timelines are still an option, haha! Choose wisely.
(And yes, fellow junglists: I will be posting a new mix completely dedicated to sc-fi d’n’b/jungle very soon!) 🙂
Fun fact:
The very first track in this mix (Machine by Electric Sheep) is on the Kaleidoskopolis album by cosm records. It was handed to me from the dj booth at Fusion’s Trancefloor after the set (probably in 2010) because I had been dancing so enthusiastically in the front, hahaha.
Not so fun fact:
When I posted this on facebook, I was shown an ‘improved’ AI version of the post (as an option). Hahaha, GO AWAY, STUPID AI CHAT BOT. I don’t want or need your generic ‘improvements’. But very on point, theme-wise. 😉 I haven’t seen that feature embedded directly into facebook before, but that will probably roll out everywhere soon. Big sigh.
